The lesson was introduced by featuring a famous
modern American sculptor, George Segal.
While we didn't use plaster for this ours, I wanted to let students see an
example of an artist who was an American original. My hope was to inspire my
students to "think outside the box" when it came time to shape their
sculpture into a unique form. The focus here was on the design principle, pattern,
and a color scheme using complementary
colors or a split complement.
