US History

Course Description:

This course is a two semester survey of American history from the age of exploration and discovery to the present. Students will be introduced to a broad overview of chronological historical events through a textbook, and the textbook material will be supplemented with primary source documents that we will analyze as a class. Solid reading and writing skills along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and study are necessary to succeed. I want all students to finish this class better able to shape a persuasive argument, think critically, effectively write, speak publicly, and understand the distinctiveness of the past and its relationship to the present. It is my belief that every student has the ability to learn, and it is my goal to help cultivate an environment in our classroom where each person feels valued, respected, and capable.
