To open the ArcView 3.2a GIS Program
1. Log on to
the network.
2. Double
click “Application Explorer.”
3. Double
click “All.”
4. Double
click “IRC Programs.”
5. Double
click “ESRI” folder.
6. Double
click “ArcView GIS 3.2a” folder.
7. Double
click “ArcView GIS 3.2a” icon.
If the program prompts you to enter information for the
first time, enter the following in the pop-up window:
Name: Student
Organization: La
Registration Number: 843161118668
To open a project file (.apr)
You will need to substitute this part wherever it prompts you to open a project or to add a new theme to your view.
1. Click on
“file” menu.
2. Click on
“open project.”
3. Select
the following drives:
If opening a project for the first time |
If opening a project that you have previously
saved to your directory |
Select drive “t:\\LCHSNOV2\VOL1\STUDENTW” |
Select drive “m:\\LCHSNOV2\VOL1\USERS\STUDENTS\year
graduating\your ID #” |
Under “Directories,” double click
“Traeger” folder. |
Find the project file name that you want and open it |
Double click “Assignment Templates Read Only”
folder. |

Double click “ArcView GIS Data Files” folder. |
|
Double click “mapworld” folder. |
|
Double click “modx”
folder, where x is the
number of the folder that you want. |

Double click on the appropriate file that you are looking
for. It should have a “.apr” extension after its name. |

Note: If you
get a window popping up that says “Where is
C:\ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\ext32\book.avx,” click the “Cancel”
button. This will take you into your project.
To open a theme file (.shp)
1. Select
“View” menu.
2. Select
“Add Theme.”
3. Select
drive “t:\\LCHSNOV2\VOL1\STUDENTW”
4. Under
“Directories,” double click “Traeger” folder.
5. Double
click “Assignment Templates Read Only” folder.
6. Double
click “ArcView GIS Data Files” folder.
7. Double
click “mapworld” folder.
8. Double
click “modx”
folder, where x is the
number of the folder that you want.
9. Double
click “data” folder.”
10. Double
click on the appropriate file that you are looking for. It should have a
“.shp” extension after its name.
Saving your files is VERY important. Read this carefully!
1. Make sure
project window is selected (highlighted).
2. Click on
“file” menu.
3. Click on
“save project as.”
4. Under
“Drives,” select “m:\\LCHSNOV2\VOL1\USERS\STUDENTS\year
graduating\your ID #” The year graduating and ID # should already be filled
in.
5. In the
file name window, type a file name. You could also leave the file name as is. Do
not
erase the “.apr” extension!
6. Click
“OK.” Your project is now saved to your school directory.
