Classwork

Homework

Tuesday, 5/28/13:

  • Guest Speaker Roger Bourke, JPL Emeritus, in the IRC speaking about asteroids and asteroid defense and how it relates to climate change.

Due Wednesday, 5/29/13 (Periods 3 and 5) or Thursday, 5/30/13 (Periods 2 and 6):

  • Re-read the article CO2 levels in the atmosphere have gone over 400 parts per million to re-acquaint yourself with the levels of CO2 we are now seeing in the atmosphere. Use the following Nature Conservancy Carbon Calculator AND CoolClimate Carbon Footprint Calculator to get a measure of how much CO2 your family emits in to the atmosphere each year. COPY and PASTE the results from BOTH calculators in to a Word/Pages document. The CoolClimate Carbon Footprint Calculator under the “Take Action” tab is harder to cut and paste, so just report the total carbon footprint in tons of CO2 per year and the individual amounts of CO2 in tons from the Travel, Home, Food, Goods, and Services histograms. Then, make a do-able plan for how you will lower this overall carbon footprint number. You should detail at least three ways in which you can lower your carbon footprint in your household AND how much carbon this will save your family. The CoolClimate Carbon Footprint Calculator will help you to get some ideas under the “Take Action” tab. You should also write all of this in ESSAY FORM with your carbon footprint summaries included with the essay. Essays with less than one half page of text, 1.5 spaced, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman size 12 font will NOT be accepted! This is worth BIG points, so going to at least one page of text with at least three (3) do-able carbon reduction plans is highly suggested! I would have you turn this in electronically, but it will be much easier for me to grade if it’s printed on paper. Feel free to print this double sided to save paper!

Wednesday, 5/29/13 (Periods 3 and 5) or Thursday, 5/30/13 (Periods 2 and 6):
